Welcome, Erin!

In all the buzz around the Dream Big Book Drive, we haven’t yet had a chance to introduce you to our newest team member: Erin Krauss, Book Babies Evaluation and Replication Coordinator! Take a minute to get to know Erin, and stop by our office to help us welcome her in person soon!

I am originally from the mountains of Virginia and have called North Carolina home for 18 years. I completed my undergraduate degree at a small college in Swannanoa, NC and then lived in Asheville for nine years before moving to the Triangle in 2009 to complete my masters in social work at UNC. I have always worked in nonprofits and education environments and am passionate about community based education programming that promotes profound social change. Over the years, I have worked in organizations that deal with early childhood development and family well-being, literacy, poverty, immigrant rights, cross-cultural learning, and public education. I am always excited to be supporting nonprofits that take a “families are the expert” approach. I believe real change happens when people are empowered and trusted to make the change they want to see. Previous to joining the Book Babies team, I spent time employed at the UNC Center for Social Justice and Duke’s Office of Durham and Regional Affairs, in addition to two years living and working in Southern Mexico.

I am thrilled to be part of the Book Babies team as I believe that the program is making a profound impact on children and families in Durham. The Evaluation and Replication Coordinator position will tie together my interest in early childhood education with my skills in program coordination, evaluation, and community outreach. I am bilingual in English and Spanish and love working in multi-lingual contexts.

When I am not working, I enjoy cooking and hosting community meals, walking in the woods, spending time with my husband, visiting family in Mexico, and of course reading!
