UPDATE: Rams Rock!

What’s that sound, you ask? Why, that’s the sound of records being shattered.

Rams dabbin’!

You may remember reading about the book drive Jennifer Miske’s AIG students at Rogers-Herr Middle School in Durham were planning. If not, the story starts here.

The students did their research. They learned about literacy and why it matters. They developed strategies for reaching out: class presentations, infographics, robocalls to families, and class competitions and incentives.

And it worked! With over 2670 books collected, the Rogers-Herr Rams have set a record for the first Durham middle school book drive ever for Book Harvest–and collected enough books to be among the highest grossing book drives in our history! Too many to fit in one picture, even from a whole flight of stairs up:

Congratulations, Rams! You ROCK! (And congratulations to the eighth grade class in particular, who won the award for the most books collected.) As for next year, explains Ms. Miske, she plans to challenge the rest of Durham’s middle schools to break Rogers-Herr’s record. We can’t wait to see the results!
